Fashion Week San Diego Spectators

I am a strong believer that disasters come in threes. On Friday night my first disaster came in the form of a robbery--the self-pay parking machine ate my $5 bill. The injustice left me $10 poorer and a half-hour late for Fashion Week San Diego’s night five runway show. Immediately following that debacle, disaster two occurred. I tripped over a curb, thanks to the pair of ridiculous heels I was sporting, and had to be helped to my feet by an older gentlemen on his way home from work. It was a tad humiliating.

So, it was apropos that during the closing show, one of the doggie models took a dump on the catwalk creating disaster number three. Audience members let out a communal sigh. I tried not to fall out of my chair from laughing so hard. Little Fido made a very strong and memorable statement. At Fashion Week San Diego, located at the Port Pavilion on Broadway Pier, the dress code was casual to evening wear and everything in between. Some women were dressed as if attending an adult prom while others wore jeans and t-shirts. Miss Coronado opted for elegance in a white lace dress that could pass for a wedding gown. Her dress is from PB’s Fabulous Rag Boutique. Miss Coronado, a.k.a. Dana Hutchinson, is competing for Miss California in January.

Also in attendance was 27-year-old Andrea Van de Vort, the owner of the upscale, bohemian-inspired Del Mar boutique, Van De Vort. She wore the Mademoiselle dress by Three Floors. It retails for around $400. Van De Vort brought along her well-dressed boutique staff. Like their boss, they also wore head-to-toe Van De Vort.

On my way back to my car, I spotted local bloggers from www.wehavenostyle.com, Daniel Custodio and Iris Palma. The pair looked very matchy-matchy in heavy blacks, reds and pinks. Custodio wore a sparkly pink Prada shirt paired with a leather jacket that once belonged to his father. He wore an elastic Balenciaga mini skirt. A similar-style skirt can be found at Barney’s for $1,375. Custodio paired the skirt with American Apparel wide-leg trousers. Meanwhile, Palma wore a thrifted, ribbed, oxblood turtleneck paired with an H&M pleather circle skirt. Her Jill Sanders chunky platform boots retail for around $800. Palma's jewel-toned bracelet is a Forever 21 purchase.
