Bomb threat at Tijuana's Centro Cultural

A Thanksgiving-morning bomb scare led to the emergency evacuation of Centro Cultural Tijuana, an iconic structure in the city's Zona Río neighborhood.

According to a news release from the cultural center, police received a phone call at about 10 a.m. on November 28 warning that an explosive may have been planted in the center's aquarium area.

Municipal and state police immediately converged on the center and aided in the evacuation of staff and visitors; a bomb squad of explosive experts from the Mexican military simultaneously conducted an exhaustive search of the building, according to the press release and press accounts.

When the search failed to turn up any bomb or other dangerous device, employees were allowed to re-enter the structure. The center later re-opened to the public.
