Thursday & Friday, November 28 & 29, in the San Diego clubs

Pop-punk five-piece Polar Bear Club plays Irenic on Friday.

Thursday 28
Gobble till you wobble, Crawler followers, ain’t a darn thing I can see that warrants bumbling around town all tryptophan’d out. Besides, no better show than the Thanksgiving family eruption. Wait for it...

From L.A., acid-drenched psych-pop four-piece Fever the Ghost appears at Soda Bar Friday night.

Friday 29
From the harsh wilderness of Rochester, New York, post-core five-piece Polar Bear Club washes up at the Irenic in NoPark. Vocalist Jimmy Stadt and guitarist/vocalist Chris Browne are the only mainstays from the Bears’ eight-year run, and it appears with this year’s Death Chorus the pair have found the rhythm combo to lift them from screamo-pop to more melodic sung tunes in the key of ’90s alternative. Safer but not dismissible, the Bear still has teeth (check out the one-two punch of “Blood Balloon” and “Graph Paper Glory Days”). And the web kids love ’em! Citizen, Diamond Youth, and Sainthood Reps open this all-ages show.... Else: Echo Park’s acid-drenched psych-pop quartet Fever the Ghost appears at Soda Bar with our surfier side, Golden Beaches...Born with Stripes, local desert-rock faves the Donkeys clop into Whistle Stop after a brief Left Coast jaunt with the folk-rocking Fruit Bats...from L.A., comedy-rock act the Dan Band visits House of Blues where they’ll assuredly still get laughs from their butchering of “Total Eclipse of the Heart” (it is funny)...our own saucy rockers Gone Baby Gone’ll be at Casbah with Filthy Violets, Phantoms, and the Frights...and In Motion Collective splits a dance-band bill in O.B. with Sure Fire Soul Ensemble, as beach-bar Winstons brings the funk Friday night.
