Motorcycle crash in Oceanside

At approximately 1:00 p.m. on Monday, November 25, a motorcyclist traveling south on the Coast Highway in Oceanside hit a Toyota Sequoia, slid about ten yards, and ended up under a GMC Sierra parked in the Cream of the Crop parking lot located just south of Vista Way in Oceanside.

The Toyota, driven by a woman named Jessica, was also traveling south and was about to make a right-hand turn into the parking lot. Before she could turn, however, the motorcycle tried to pass her on the right and slammed into her passenger side.

“I had my blinker on,” said Jessica. “He hit me so hard, I didn’t think it could have been a motorcycle.”

The motorcycle then slid into the lot and ended up under the back of the GMC driven by a man named Chris.

“I had just pulled in and parked,” said Chris, “and I was preparing to get my kids out of the back. Then I heard the bike wind down, scrape as the rider laid it down, and I felt the bump when he hit me.”

Chris got out of his SUV to find the rider lying on the ground beside his motorcycle, which was wedged under the back of the truck.

According to Oceanside police officer M. Bussey, the motorcycle appeared to have been traveling too fast; however, no citation was given out at the scene. Because the motorcyclist was transported to the hospital with injuries, Officer Bussey was unable to provide his identity. Chris said he appeared “young.” Jessica reported that he was able to talk to the paramedics, and she heard that he had a broken clavicle.

Employees from Cream of the Crop offered water and restrooms to the victims and the officers as they watched the motorcycle get towed. The tow-truck driver had to lift the GMC and place wood blocks underneath it in order to free the bike. He then winched the motorcycle out from under the GMC and onto a flatbed truck.
