5th Avenue Style in the Gaslamp

Mickey Mouse tattoos and chunky boots

I am continually amazed over the stillness of the Gaslamp Quarter during daytime hours. It’s an eerie sight to find the streets empty of cocktail dress and dangerously tall stiletto clad bar goers.

At 12pm on a weekday, I found 5th avenue virtually empty give or take a few business men and camera toting tourists.

Alee Saviengvon

I spotted 33-year-old Alee Saviengvong on her way to work at Haven Boutique (located between F and G Street on 5th Ave.) Alee wore a tribal print off-the-shoulder top from Haven, Urban Outfitter’s black skinny jeans and oversized Ray Bans.

"I love chunky ankle boots and a good watch. They both go with everything," The 33-year-old told me.

Saviengvong's boots are Steve Madden and her watch was a Nordstrom purchase. When asked what her favorite local San Diego store was, Alee admitted she might be biased, "I really like to shop at Haven. They have great clothes," She told me.

Robin Sangil

Nearby, Robin Sangil shopped at Urban Outfitters.

The 19-year-old Forever 21 employee got both his Mickey Mouse and optimism tattoo last summer shortly after his 18th Birthday.

When asked if he thinks he'll regret the Mickey tat when he is elderly, Sangil answered with a resounding "No."

Sangil believes that accessories are what complete an outfit. His hat and sunglasses are from Urban Outfitters. His slim cut button-down and Skinny jeans are from Cotton-on.

"My least favorite trend is the skater look. It's too mainstream for me," he said.

Sangil's favorite shopping spot is Urban Outfitters.
