Owl vs. crows in Ramona backyard

For the past month or so we've had an adult pair of great horned owls hanging around in our palm trees, usually right at dusk.

On May 6, at around 1 p.m., and while it was raining, we heard the crows going crazy outside the house. It turned out that it was a baby owl in our neighbors' tree and the crows were harassing it. The little guy was pretty wet and ticked off. He made several lunges at the crows if they got too close. I'm sure he would have torn them to shreds.

We scared away the crows and continued to check on him. All dried out and not looking as ticked off at 6:45 p.m. Had to chase a cat away...could have been for the cat's own good. He may be a little guy, but look at those claws! Hopefully he will get home safely and tell his "Mom & Dad" what those mean ol' crows did to him and they'll hunt the crows down and teach them a thing or two!

He did move up to higher branches at around 8:00 p.m. and this morning, Tuesday, May 7, he was no longer in the tree. Our neighbor, whose tree the owl was in, said she heard “who-who" last night, so perhaps he was calling out to his "Mom and Dad" to come find him.
