Tijuana police responded to the shouts and pleas for help from an imprisoned, under-aged female at around 3:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 13.

Based on a tip given by a passing stranger, the female was located inside a residence located on Calle Baja California in Colonia Camino Verde, but when police responded at the residence, they were attacked by 35-year-old Gerardo Rodolfo Ruiz Morales, who punched the responding officers and blasted them with pepper spray.

It turned out that Ruiz Morales is a Rosarito cop, allegedly running some vice action on the side in Tijuana. Other Tijuana units responded and the brouhaha was quelled, but not before Ruiz Morales’s girlfriend — Jenny Beatriz Arroyo, from El Salvador — was arrested as a partner to the crime. The accomplice compounded her legal problems by offering a 4390-peso bribe (about $350) to the police if they would walk away from the situation.

Inside the house, police found three bulletproof vests, high-caliber assault-rifle ammo, and two laptop computers.

The rescued minor informed Tijuana police that, in another house, four other members of the band of “human traffickers” were holding two minors against their will for the purpose of prostitution. They were busted as well.

Besides Ruiz Morales and his girlfriend, other arrestees included Jesus Alberto Silva Cuevas, 27; Jose Luis Moren, 40; Daniel Cervantes Herrera, 50; and Claudia Araujo Leon, 27.
