Menswear: The Denim Shirt

Remember a few seasons back when guys were plucked and waxed to oblivion? Thank god that's over.

Menswear has taken a much more masculine detour into the world of work wear. Men have begun sporting waxed canvas jeans, chunky work boots, and heavy denim shirts--all important wardrobe choices to contend with the harsh climate of San Diego and to navigate all our craft beer bars.

Luckily most SD men have avoided taking the trend into the lumberjack zone by opting for sleek, well-fitted, and clean-lined versions of this backwoods look.

In North Park, Spencer Jaquay wore jeans and a denim shirt from Urban Outfitters. His aviator glasses where found at local bar, The Griffin where his girlfriend works as the band booker.

Jaquay is a bartender at Mission Valley's Benihanas and manages local band Buddy Banter.

Jaquay's favorite wardrobe item are his Stacy Adams shoes.

18-year old SDSU student Nico Peji wore a short-sleeved pale denim shirt. His button-down is also from Urban Outfitters. Peji is a nursing student.

International fashion student Jay Lee wore a Uniqlo denim shirt on a recent visit to Balboa Park. By pairing his shirt with an oversized camo-print duffle and work wear inspired shoes he came dangerously close to looking like an urban lumberjack.

Lee was in town for 24 hours. His plan was to take in San Diego by spend half the day in Balboa park and the other half in PB learning how to surf.
