Local alt-rock favorites Transfer will headline sets at the Lafayette on New Year's Eve.
Local alt-rock favorites Transfer will headline sets at the Lafayette on New Year's Eve.
The Cracker/Camper Van contingent pull into Belly Up Sunday night.

Sunday 29
Sunday’s a tough Crawler call, cuz as Cracker and Camper Van pull into Belly Up Tavern for a night of fun punk’d alt-rock favorites...closer to home, the Gene Taylor Blues Band, featuring fellow Blaster Dave Alvin, will be at Casbah pumping out the blues-rock and boogie-woogie these cats are famous for. I’ll flip a coin after the day’s football is done.

Monday 30
You seen that Schitzophonics/Diana Death Bowie tribute Bowiephonics yet? Hear tell it’s muy swell. With sci-fi garage-rock quartet Shake Before Us and haunted bossa nova band Creepxotica setting it up at Casbah, this’d be the gig to see New Year’s Eve Eve.

Metal-reggae quartet the Expendables will be ringing in the new year at Belly Up Tuesday night.

Tuesday 31
For you brave souls who venture out of the house on NYE, the hipness hits Lafayette Hotel this year as alt-rock radioheadcases Transfer radioheadlines sets after Gary Shuffler’s Bowie tribute Ziggy Shuffledust & the Spiders from Mars, rambling rockers Blackout Party and Dead Feather Moon, Tim Lowman’s one-man blues-rock band Low Volts, and brassy Afrofunk big band In Motion Collective.... Less crowd/more loud? Maybe hit up the San Pedro El Cortez, Sailing Stones, Go Go Lords, and Pheasants fling at Til-Two...Scarlet Symphony’s reuniting to take the stage at Soda Bar after Zodiac Death Valley and Hills Like Elephants...and northa town, “making heads turn and floors shake for years,” you got party-rock four-piece the Expendables Gettin’ Filthy up at Belly Up after sticky-sweet blues belter Miss Candye Kane. Don’t drink and drive. Just f!!!ing don’t.

Wednesday 1
I got bupkis on the first...maybe return some things to scratch up some post-holiday scratch for tickets to the Matthew Sweet Rock Show at Belly Up on Thursday night. Also upcoming and worth selling hemoglobin for: Califone on the 5th at Soda Bar, Parquet Courts at Ché Café on January 18, and a month-long run of stellar lineups celebrating 25 years of Casbah clubbing that includes the Dragons, Three Mile Pilot, No Knife, Uncle Joe’s, Penetrators, that mother-loving half-man, half-pie Creedle, fLUF, OFF!, and Rocket from the Crypt wrapping it up. Tons of funyuns kickstarting twenty-fourteen: casbahmusic.com.
