The American Scream and The Town That Dreaded Sundown

The Town That Dreaded Sundown

The American Scream is a thoughtful and intimate look into the lives of several families who take their love of Halloween a step further. The film quickly became one of my all-time favorite documentaries. Having grown up with a very deep appreciation for the holiday and becoming a home haunter myself, the film’s incredibly inspiring and never fails to remind me of all the reasons I have come to cherish the Halloween season.

Based on a true story with a killer still at large, The Town That Dreaded Sundown, released in 1976, is a beloved, albeit obscure, cult classic. The film plays more as an episode of Unsolved Mysteries than an actual horror movie. Now, thanks to Scream Factory, the film gets the treatment it deserves with a DVD/Blu-ray release from a fairly clean print of the film, offering up some great special features, to boot.
