Yarn bomb at Kensington/Talmadge library

Kensington residents did double-takes early on the morning of Wednesday, August 14, when they saw colorfully knitted “wraps” adorning trees, poles, and handrails in front of the Kensington/Talmadge library.

According to nearby residents, the knitted wraps were put in place sometime late Tuesday evening. All the wraps perfectly fit their assigned locations while others were hand-stitched in place, suggesting substantial forethought in executing this surprise art installation.

Most prominent is the knitted tree emblem announcing this as an “SDPL” — San Diego Public Library.

Residents who stopped to admire the handiwork expressed pleasure that artistic neighbors may have had a hand in creating and executing this unique urban guerrilla art form.
