Enchanted by Normal Heights

Of all the neighborhoods in San Diego I’m the most enchanted by Normal Heights. They put on a hell of a festival with Adam’s Avenue Unplugged in April and the Adam’s Avenue Street Festival in September. But mostly my love for Normal Heights stems from my early days in San Diego. When I first moved to SD, my childhood best friend, Jessica, followed suit 6 months later. She rented a tiny one bedroom apartment off of Kansas in Normal Heights. We spent countless nights exploring her neighborhood and familiarizing ourselves with our new city. We hung out mostly at BLAH, Lestats, and the now defunct Kadan.

Jessica has since moved back to Chicago which is a shame because there is a batch of fun new restaurants and bars that we could’ve added to our roster. She missed out on Sycamore Den, Polite Provisions , and Soda & Swine.

On a Recent night out in Normal Heights, I ran into Alex Politeo, Lauren Switzer, Kim Walthall, and Vicki Bowman. They had just attended Brian Hebet’s solo exhibition at Visual Shop on Adams Avenue.

Alex wore a Kimchi Blue Knit Floral Skater Dress from Urban Outfitter’s ($39.99) and Jeffrey Campbell Lita boots ($162)

Switzer had on a red Urban Outfitters dress, borrowed from her friend Kim, and shoes from Top Shop

“I spent way too much on these shoes,” She said with a sigh.

Walthall wore an Urban Outfitters skirt, a shirt from Thrift Trader in North Park, and a California pendent necklace from Mimi and Red’s in North Park .

Vicki wore a shirt from Buffalo Exchange paired with Steve Madden sandals.
