On the Boardwalk

Tatyanna Robinson

Mission Beach’s boardwalk is one of the greatest locales in San Diego for people watching. There is a superb mixture of out-of-towners, drunk frat boys, scantily clad beach goers, and bizarre buskers whose talents include everything from sand art and palm roses to rollerblading stunts and pigeon gathering. It’s never a dull day on the boardwalk.

Escondido resident Tatyanna Robinson was skateboarding through Mission Beach with a group of friends when I spotted her. She wore patriotic short-shorts from Target (Mossimo, $14.99) along with a thrifted t-shirt that she repurposed into a tank. Robinson’s fashion motto is "be creative and be yourself."

Near Belmont Park I found friends David Koehne of PB and Samantha Hernandez of IB. Hernandez wore crochet Tom’s (retail price, $64.99 ), a Forever 21 tribal bandeau bikini top (retail price $10.80) with PacSun high-rise shorts.

Koehne wore a San Diego State tank top, where he is currently enrolled as an aerospace engineering major. He wore Nike shoes, Levi’s, and carried a Rayne Renegade skateboard.
