Shortly after 2 p.m. on September 3, San Diego Fire-Rescue Department paramedics and a Rural/Metro ambulance responded to a 911 call regarding an unconscious female at Fourth Avenue and Broadway.

Upon arrival, emergency personnel found a woman in her 20s or early 30s passed out on a bench at the MTS bus stop located adjacent to the Horton Plaza shopping center.

EMTs took the precaution of stabilizing the woman’s cervical spine with a neck brace before placing her on a stretcher. During this process, she became somewhat confused and combative, attempting feebly to resist the EMTs’ efforts to help her.

After immobilizing her arms and legs on the stretcher, the EMTs administered an IV drip, then transferred her to the ambulance to provide additional treatment. The woman was then transported to a hospital emergency room at approximately 2:10 pm.

According to the San Diego police officers also responding to the scene, the unidentified woman may have been under the influence of drugs, alcohol, or a combination of both.
