North Park Prowler Gets Away

Police are reminding residents to keep their doors and windows locked in the North Park area after a burglar evaded arrest late early Tuesday morning, July 10. A burglar was reportedly busy around Idaho Street and El Cajon Boulevard, spending a couple of hours trying to get into neighborhood homes.

The suspect, described by San Diego police Lt. Keith Lucas as a black male, 20–30 years of age, 170 lbs, 5'10”–6’, bald, with brown eyes, was chased by police but escaped.

At around 2 a.m., the suspect reached through an open bedroom window and tried to yank it farther open in the 4400 block of Illinois Street; reportedly, he wasn't discouraged by the sleeping resident's shouting. The perpetrator ran away when the resident smacked his hand with the interior blinds.

Minutes later, a similarly described suspect was seen standing outside another bedroom window nearby in the 4600 block of Ohio Street.

Then, at 3:35 a.m., in the 4700 block of Idaho Street, a resident found the suspect standing in her kitchen; he had entered through the unlocked front door. The suspect requested a cigarette and glass of water from the resident. The resident told the suspect another resident of the home would be walking in from the garage shortly. The suspect fled on foot.

Police stopped a man matching the description and he dropped items identified as being from burglaries before he ran. Police saturated the neighborhood but the suspect got away.
