Santee resident bilked in Disney ticket scam

Seeking a bargain on Disneyland Hopper Tickets, Kim posted a want ad on Craigslist. Now the young woman from North County is telling others, through a subsequent ad, doing so may not be a good idea.

Kim needed 12 two-day tickets for a “planned family gathering” at the Disney parks. On November 28, she was contacted by a woman who said her name was “Maria.” She offered Kim “leftover tickets from a company function" at half price.

On Friday, November 30, Kim met Maria in Anaheim and made the deal. As insurance, Kim took pictures of Maria, her driver’s license, and car’s license plate. Following the sale, Kim, went to the park to validate her purchase.

“Customer relations at Disneyland scanned every ticket,” says Kim. “They never, ever had been activated. That troll gathered tickets from [the] Disney Store and walked out with them. They looked like plastic gift cards that said on [the] back ‘1-day Hoppers’ for both parks!! There is also a place for a signature and they were not signed….

“I gave her $900,” says Kim. “I cried. I am still in shock! That someone could actually lie right to your face. I told her this is for a family reunion and relatives are driving down from Northern California.”

Since returning to her San Diego home, Kim says she “contacted a family member in law enforcement” but has not reported the theft to police.

As far as the proof of identification she accepted from Maria, on closer examination her Montana driver’s license indicates a 92231 zip code — for Calexico, California.

Kim’s latest Craigslist listing: “DON'T BUY DISNEYLAND TICKETS FROM TROLLS.”
