Infanticides Discovered in Tijuana

A spate of baby murders has shocked the city of Tijuana with three grim discoveries around the city over the past ten days.

The first infanticide was discovered on Friday, March 23, when police followed up on a report of unknown persons hanging around a house under construction. The officers discovered the body of an infant on the property, a girl of about two years of age, dead and discarded under a tree in the back yard. The child, wrapped in a blanket, was found to bear marks of torture, including stab wounds to the head, and her hands had been cut off at the wrists.

A few days later, in the early morning of March 27, a fetus of six months was discovered on the pavement of 6th Street off Revolucion, in the newly renovated entertainment district. Security cameras connected with the businesses in the area are being reviewed in an effort to establish who may have abandoned the fetus in a public street. One theory postulated is that the mother of the fetus may have given birth or spontaneously aborted it in one of the nearby bars before casting it into the street, since it still had an attached umbilical cord. Investigators have taken DNA samples of the fetus for confirmation of the mother once leads are established.

One day later, March 28, another baby girl, estimated to be about a month old, was found partially buried near a recycling plant. The death is being investigated by homicide detectives, under the assumption that foul play occurred.
