Imperial Beach Burger King Closes with No Notice

It’s been over 20 years since Burger King opened their restaurant at 1180 Palm Avenue. Recently, though, all the Burger King logos were stripped off the building, and the restaurant's appliances and equipment were removed.

The closure was unexpected news to many Burger King customers who have been seen pulling up to the restaurant. A would-be patron pulling up to the drive-through window on September 2 commented, “I was just here last week and everything was fine. Now I’ll have to get on the freeway to find my son his favorite burger.”

Nearby business owners weren’t surprised: some said the restaurant hadn’t been doing well and that there had been rumors the restaurant would close and an apartment complex would be built on the site. A realtor at nearby Hutchins Reality said the restaurant may be getting a remodel.

“It is doubtful they would put up an apartment complex in a business district,” said the realtor, but he agreed that it was strange that no signs of explanation were posted on the building.

Phone calls to the restaurant franchisee and Burger King corporate headquarters went unanswered.
