Gangsters’ New Paradise in Point Loma?

Some colorful, detailed graffiti that was painted on a retaining wall overlooking Kellogg Beach in La Playa earlier in July has been painted away.

Concerned neighbors called police gang units to come out and take pictures to document the defacement near the dead end of Perry Street. Painters then covered it up.

There is come concern among the locals that gangsters may have discovered the quiet beaches off Rosecrans Street in Point Loma. Residents say there have been groups coming down to lounge on the beaches, reportedly bringing along loose dogs (identified as “pit bulls”) and alcohol.

An elderly woman who lives in the area told me that on one occasion she witnessed a drunken tattooed man become abusive and violent toward his girlfriend. The woman said she was "aghast and mortified" at what she witnessed.

Another neighbor said that there was gunfire a few weeks ago along San Antonio Avenue in the middle of the night; police responded immediately, but the shooters got away.
