Escondido Police Cleared of Culpability in Jennifer Favreau’s Shooting Death?

A confidential source says San Diego County district attorney Bonnie Dumanis has determined that the Escondido police officer involved in the shooting death of an alleged informant will not face criminal charges.

The City of Escondido, however, still may be held liable in a $50 million civil case that has been filed by Jennifer Favreau's mother and daughter. John Burris, who has represented Rodney King and Latrell Sprewell, is handling the case, which will be tried in federal court.

On October 15, 2009, 31-year-old Jennifer Favreau was shot in the chest as her boyfriend Christopher Ramirez steered a stolen car toward Escondido police officers. Janet Favreau, Jennifer’s mother, has asserted that her daughter was working with Escondido police officers to help apprehend Ramirez.

According to San Diego DA deputy communications director Steve Walker, a letter about the decision will be sent to the Escondido Police Department.
