Tall Eucalyptus Falls Between Mission Hills Homes

Residents of a canyon that separates the 1600 and 1590 block of Guy and Linwood streets got a surprise on the evening of January 19. A little before 8 p.m., a large eucalyptus tree came crashing down, loud enough to get the attention of residents from apartments and homes a block’s distance away.

The base of the unnamed canyon is paved over by a private driveway that begins at the intersection of Chalmers and State streets and is home to various residences that are built close to steep canyon sides. The tree that once stood on the southern side of the east-west running canyon fell in a WNW direction. It seems to have become uprooted and fallen between major structures, yet it obstructed part of the driveway.

Twelve hours later, before heading to work, locals were still gathering around to see what had happened.
