Carnival Splendor’s Departure Delayed in San Diego

The San Diego Port District website announced that the Carnival Splendor cruise ship was "scheduled to leave the Port’s Tenth Avenue Marine Terminal on Wednesday afternoon, January 19. However, additional time was needed to complete preparations for the departure."

The Splendor — out of service since an engine fire on November 8 — is now scheduled to depart the terminal on the afternoon of January 20. The vessel will head for a San Francisco dry-dock facility, where it will undergo additional specialized industrial repairs.

The 952-foot-long ship will be "accompanied by two tugs as a safety precaution during its multi-day voyage north," according to Coast Guard officials.

Carnival Cruise Lines maintains that the ship will return to service a month from today, on February 20; it operates year-round seven-day Mexican Riviera voyages from Long Beach harbor.
