Rosarito Residents Claim Cops Abuse Authority

Two female residents of Rosarito recently filed a complaint with the City, claiming local municipal police have been abusing their authority of late.

Susana Reina and Virginia Hernandez live in colonia Los Ramos. Reina’s complaint states that when she sent her 17-year-old son out to pick up groceries, she witnessed his detainment by police. She claimed police held her son at gunpoint and — with a rifle to his head — forced him to do squats. Her son’s friend (a male) was made to lower his pants by police, who demanded that the two youths hand over drugs they were accused of having.

Hernandez said that residents of the colonia were frequent victims of police harassment and that a few of her neighbors had been carried away by police to desolate areas, set free after their money was stolen.

Complaints were not made sooner, according to an article published in Tijuana’s daily Frontera, because most residents fear reprisals.
