Bad Pipe Joint Leads to Pollution in San Diego Bay

Wet concrete from a pipe-relining project flowed into the bay by the Embarcadero.

While walking along the Embarcadero at 3 p.m. on Monday, January 31, I noticed concrete bubbling up from a hole in the road surface and into the storm drain.

I turned around and noticed it was pouring into the bay. A worker for Burwell Pipeline (a city-hired contractor) told me they were relining pipes and there was apparently a bad joint, resulting in the concrete rising to the surface. Harbor Police were called.
