Mission Hills Vons Has Sale Before Demolition

At 4:00 a.m. on April 15, people lined up outside the Vons at 450 W. University Avenue. A sale had been announced that would precede a renovation of the grocery store. (To say it was time to keep up with the Albertsons across the street is an understatement.)

A gentleman bought $1800 worth of liquor for $900. Other people stocked up on half-priced T-bones and rib-eye steaks.

The store’s crew celebrated later at the Aero Club on India Street; they will work at one of the other Vons stores in San Diego. The mood was generally upbeat.

Demolition of the store was to begin Monday, April 18.
