Imperial Beach Boy Starts House Fire

San Diego firefighters rushed to a fire in the 800 block of Granger Street shortly before 9:30 a.m. on September 5. Battalion chief Dennis Clay confirmed that a young boy was responsible for the fire and said, “It was a small fire with very little damage.”

Neighbors watched with concern as two engines, three San Diego police cars, and a paramedic unit clamored for space on the quiet residential street.

The boy’s mother, who suffered a small burn to her hand, was overheard telling firefighters that this was not the first time her son had started a fire, “but this was the big one,” she confessed. “I’ve been thinking of taking him to the fire station so he could be talked to.” She then offered them an apology: “Sorry guys, this is not a good start for the weekend.”

Firefighters reassured the mother that resources were available to help her son and that they would be in touch.
