Metropolitan Transit System to Work on Trolley Line From San Ysidro Northward

Blue Line trolley service from the San Ysidro station to points north has been halted on weekends so the Metropolitan Transit System can rebuild sections of track and station platforms to accommodate the more modern coach designs that operate on the Green Line from the Old Town station to East County stations.

Service between San Ysidro and Palomar Street is closed down Saturdays and Sundays. On those days (if all goes according to plan), shuttle buses will be available approximately every five minutes to take northbound passengers from San Ysidro to Palomar Street, where they can then catch a trolley north. Conversely, trolleys will proceed no further south than Palomar, where one will have to board a shuttle bus.

Two other shuttles will take passengers from San Ysidro to Iris Avenue and Palm Avenue. The shuttle to Palomar is an “express,” which uses the I-5 freeway to reach the station.

The weekend rerouting is expected to be in effect for 50 weekends. More information can be obtained at: sdmts.com/trolleyrenewal.asp
