Between the Lines

A resident from Acacia Avenue in Carlsbad appeared at the May 11 city council meeting to ask for help in reducing the number of utility lines that are in the vicinity of her home.

“When we first bought the property a couple of years ago, I didn’t even notice them,” said property owner Raylene S. Over the past three years, she said, more utility poles have been added to the neighborhood; the homeowner had recently counted 23, which consisted of city utility lines and poles from AT&T and Time Warner.

“That’s my million-dollar view,” said Raylene S., who said she paid over a million dollars for her home. She requested that the Acacia Avenue area be moved higher on the priority list for the city’s Capital Improvement Program because of its close proximity to the boardwalk.

According to Raylene S., other locations that were slotted higher on the priority list have a lot fewer utility lines than in her neighborhood. Because moving the lines underground would expensive, she asked the City to consider bundling the lines to improve her view.
