Tapped Out

The San Diego County Sheriff's Department arrested three people in Encinitas, Del Mar, and Solana Beach for furnishing alcohol to persons under the age of 21 on March 26, according to the state department of Alcoholic Beverage Control.

Under the supervision of officers, two minor decoys approached a total of six adults outside of licensed stores. They asked the adults to buy them alcohol and provided them the money to do so. The sting took place between 4:30 and 8:30 p.m. in front of establishments that sell alcohol for consumption off premises.

The three who furnished the alcohol were arrested and booked for violation of Section 25658(a) of the Business and Professions Code. One of those arrested was in possession of marijuana.

The operation was part of the Decoy Shoulder Tap Program, a grant funded by the department of Alcoholic Beverage Control. The decoys employed in the operation were under the age of 20.

Grants are given to communities where there is “high incidence of alcohol-related traffic crashes and injuries involving those under age 21,” according to the ABC.
