Ramona resident Kia Turner, 16, walked away from a single-car accident on San Vicente Road, just outside of San Diego Country Estates, on July 15.

The accident occurred at about 6 p.m., when, according to witness Todd Kranzcoble, Turner’s vehicle started drifting to the left, she over-compensated to the right, and slammed into an embankment.

“I mean, she hit it hard!” said Kranzcoble. “I just got home from work, fixed the flag, looked up, and saw a maroon-color SUV headed west and going way too fast.”

Turner crawled out of the vehicle without aid and walked away from the crash with a cut to her knee.

“For that bad of an accident — for her to have just a cut kneecap? That’s amazing,” said Kranzcoble. “She was heading west into town and just shot off to the right.”

Kranzcoble said the SUV was at a 45- to 50-degree angle when it hit the embankment. The force of the impact sent the vehicle across traffic before “taking a nose-dive” down the opposite side where it flipped end-over-end and slammed into a trailer parked on Kranzcoble's brother-in-law’s property.

“She just left!” said Kia’s mother. “We warned her to be careful — that the road was slippery — she just got her license.”

“I just got my license in February,” said Turner. “I am so, so sorry.”
