Something's Rotten in Secondary

The evidence was hidden in a cargo of fish, but authorities at the Otay Mesa border crossing sniffed out 708 pounds of marijuana anyway.

According to a U.S. Customs and Border Protection press release, the pot stash was uncovered on the evening of January 21, after a 34-year-old Ensenada man drove a 1992 bobtail truck into the inspection area with what he said was a cargo of fish. The CBP agent decided a more intensive exam was in order and sent the truck and driver to the port's x-ray station.

The x-ray indicated something was odd about the shipment, so it was determined the truck should be unloaded. One of the containers was probed, and the green vegetation extracted tested positive for pot.

Officials removed 29 wrapped packages they said had a street value of $424,565. The driver was arrested and booked into the Metropolitan Correctional Center.
