When a Mother Cries

At about 9:00 a.m. on December 31, at the corner of Midway Drive and West Point Loma Boulevard, a five-car wreck occurred that sent a mother and her nine-year old girl to the hospital, the girl reportedly with serious head trauma.

A green SUV heading south on West Point Loma crashed into the back of a line of cars, the first of which contained the mother and girl. The impact sent that car into the BMW in front of it and so on, for a total of five cars damaged or destroyed.

The SUV ended up upside down with the driver (said to be on prescription medications) initially trapped. The mother and daughter had to be freed with the Jaws of Life. It was heartbreaking to hear the mother screaming her daughter's name while being extracted from the wreckage.

Many Samaritans raced to help the victims, and the busy intersection was closed for hours by police investigators.
