Who's Jack White?

“Who the F&%k Is Jack White?” Those were the words printed on the T-shirt thrown at Brendan Benson between songs. "Genius!" he laughed, "that's f&%kin' brilliant. Thank you." Through the night, it was the only reference to Benson's champion and Raconteurs band mate.

Not that any Raconteurs songs would've been necessary. Benson's hour-plus set was filled with well-crafted pop-rock tunes from his four solo albums, including "Good To Me" (oft-covered by the White Stripes), "Spit It Out," and "Cold Hands Warm Heart," all of which ring familiar to the casual listener because of their use in movies and TV shows and ads.

Attendance was light, leaving the crowd of predominantly 20-something women with their boyfriends in tow room to dance and sing along to nearly every tune. Cameras flashed periodically, as Benson is one of those performers who doesn't ban photography at his shows.

The encore included a cover of "Better Days" by Graham Nash, which Benson introduced as a brand new song, and Tom Petty's "Listen To Her Heart."
