And the Waterworks Began

At high noon on Sunday, August 1, a geyser of water sprayed from a pipe on the 4500 block of West Point Loma Boulevard — enough water so that cars in both lanes heading into Ocean Beach received quite a dousing.

According to a nearby resident, a "car ran over one of the water pipes along the side of the curb. The impact was so strong that a valve cap was broken" and the waterworks began. The resident also mentioned that he had no water service and that the city water department was on the way to fix the problem.

The ongoing project of underground-pipe replacement on West Point Loma Boulevard has required the placement of the surface pipes to supply residents with water; even the sidewalks are crisscrossed by temporary pipes. However, the inconvenience of the torn-up streets and “cone zones” seemed to be disregarded by passing motorists, who honked their horns in thanks for the free car wash.
