Emotion & Commotion

The release of Emotion & Commotion confirms Jeff Beck's legacy as one of rock's finest instrumentalists. The eclectic collection includes original instrumentals from Beck and keyboardist Jason Rebello, classic-rock and R&B covers, orchestral pieces, and a Puccini aria.

The CD features two songs associated with the late Jeff Buckley, an instrumental "Corpus Christi Carol" and "Lilac Wine," with vocals by Imelda May. Beck's understated phrasing on the Harold Arlen/Yip Harburg standard "Over the Rainbow" is inspired. Joss Stone lends her voice to Screamin' Jay Hawkins's "I Put a Spell on You" as well as the Rebello/Stone composition "There's No Other Me."

The CD reaches a climax with Puccini's "Nessun Dorma" and closes with Dario Marianelli's "Elegy for Dunkirk," featuring opera singer Olivia Safe.

Emotion & Commotion exemplifies Beck's current musical philosophy, as stated in his liner notes: "...letting other people be part of the music rather than have full-shred guitar on every track."
