Last week, the San Diego Police Department warned residents about a male burglar who gained entry into a home in the Rolando neighborhood to steal from an elderly female homeowner.

On September 15, a victim notified police that a man claiming to be a City of San Diego Water Department employee had arrived at her door at around 3:30 p.m. He wore what appeared to be a uniform with an ID badge around his neck. He said he needed to come inside the home to check the water pressure. He asked the resident to flush toilets while he ran water in the kitchen sink.

After the suspect left, the resident realized he had stolen cash from her purse. The suspect is described as a clean-shaven white male, about 50 years old, 5’5”, about 160 to 165 pounds, with brown hair. The suspect had a raspy voice and wore a gray button-down, short-sleeved shirt with gray pants.

Police remind people that city employees are required to carry photo identification while on duty. Residents can verify that someone is a Water Dept. employee by calling 619-515-3525.
