Southbound Train

At about 7:15 p.m., Wednesday, September 9, San Diego sheriff’s deputies, paramedics, and other emergency personnel responded to a 911 call about a person struck by a train two miles north of the Solana Beach station. A 55-year-old man reportedly stepped in front of the southbound Amtrak train.

According to the San Diego County medical examiner’s report, “The decedent was identified as Rodrick Loren Jones...who resided with friends in Cardiff by the Sea. On the night of 09/09/09, he walked down to the train tracks near the 100 block of Liverpool Drive. He was witnessed to stand on the tracks of an on-coming train. Upon paramedic’s arrival, death was confirmed. The manner of death was listed as suicide, and the cause of death was multiple blunt force trauma.”

After the sheriff’s department completed their investigation, they released the Amtrak train from the scene. The train from Santa Barbara continued on to San Diego, where it arrived over two hours late.
