H1N1 Takes Another One

According to Tijuana’s Frontera newspaper, a 27-year-old elementary school teacher who was teaching at a school in Las Playas contracted the swine flu virus on around August 25 and two weeks later died of complications.

The teacher, a man, was hospitalized at the time of his death. He was teaching classes when he first exhibited symptoms and was told by the school´s administration to stay home as a matter of policy. It was confirmed during his hospitalization that he had contracted the H1N1 flu virus; however, his death has been attributed to the pneumonia that developed as a complication.

The secretary of education was quoted as saying that classes at any given school would be suspended as a public health measure if there is more than one case of the illness occurring concurrently.
