You Can Ride but Can't Hide

At approximately 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 22, a California Highway Patrol officer traveling on northbound I-5 near SR-163 observed a motorcycle driving at a high rate of speed. The officer was struggling to keep up with the biker, who attempted to elude police.

San Diego PD’s ABLE helicopter was called out and was able to stay on top of the motorcycle throughout the short chase. The helicopter followed the biker from the I-5 to SR-94 eastbound to Spring Valley, apparently undetected.

The rider made his way to his residence on the 3400 block of Helix Avenue, where the helicopter crew observed him opening his garage door, riding in, and shutting the door after him. The lone CHP officer arrived at the address to find an open front door. His backup was too far away, so they called San Diego sheriff’s deputies to assist. Four deputies were dispatched and directed the deputies to the address.

After a search of the house, they found the biker. The CHP officer detected the odor of alcohol and conducted a field sobriety test. He was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol, speeding, reckless driving, and his motorcycle was impounded.
