Reasons for the withdrawal from Ensenada given by Carnival were concerns by its passengers about violence in Mexico, problems with narcotrafico, and concerns about sanitation. Tourism accounts for about 30 percent of the money brought into Mexico as foreign trade.

Meanwhile, U.S. ambassador Carlos Pascual, visiting Tijuana last week, stated at a conference that public security had improved so much in the previous 20 months that he would not issue an edict warning American tourists away from Mexico and TJ.

Another tourist report stated that charter buses bringing tourists from the U.S. to Avenida Revolución have enjoyed an upswing in business recently, essentially doubling their ridership. Nevertheless, sonly 15 to 25 americanos visit the street on any given day, according to a report compiled by the Universidad Autonoma de Baja California.
