Following the accident, the motorcycle rider, an unidentified man who appeared to be in his 30s, lay injured on Ash Street. His damaged motorcycle left a trail of fluid to where it had slid, at least 30 yards away against a curb. The front bumper of the truck, an older white model, lay only feet from the motorcyclist.

Onlookers aided the injured rider until police and paramedics arrived. The rider was strapped to a gurney and driven away in an ambulance within minutes. The cause of the accident is not known, although it did occur in a construction zone. At least one onlooker commented on the dangers of lane-splitting while riding a motorcycle.
