Over It

Other than the thundering sounds of gigantic planes overhead, residents of Banker’s Hill live fairly peaceful lives. But on a recent Friday at approximately 11 p.m., the raised voices of two young men echoed between apartment complexes on Fourth Street.

The men were returning from a dinner party and had been arguing most of the evening. The argument, which consisted of repeated “I hate you”s and proclamations that “This relationship is over,” went on for 30 minutes before residents in the surrounding Barcelona apartment complex began turning on lights and opening windows.

“The planes I can handle, but this is ridiculous,” one resident said. After 40 minutes of slinging profanities and harsh words, a car pulled up and one of the men jumped in, exclaiming, “I’m over this!” The other young man, furious, removed his shoe and hurled it at the passing car (he missed by a solid two feet).

As the car sped away, all was quiet again in Banker’s Hill. Residents turned off their lights, closed their windows, and returned to their relatively quiet evening.
