Drive-By in the Burbs

(Cindy Winslow)

Heading down Poway Road on Sunday, May 31, at 6:30 p.m., I heard a loud popping sound seemingly emanate from my tire. Thinking I’d run over a rock, I pulled into the nearest parking lot to take a look.

I was stunned to discover thick, fluorescent pink paint spattered over the hubcap, tire, wheel well, and underside of my car.

Apparently, my vehicle had become the bull's eye for a paintball “drive-by” shooting. Was this an isolated incident, or a new trend? I contacted the Poway sheriff’s department to find out.

According to a detective at the station, paintball vandalism has not been a problem in Poway. He said kids do shoot paintball guns at things from time to time but implied that it’s not on a scale that would prompt opening a case.
