Queen Califia's Magical Circle Garden

(Bonnie Maffei)

Secretly tucked away behind a pond at Kit Carson Park lies Niki De Saint Phalle’s colorful sacred creatures. The entrance to the sculpture garden leads you past a snake wall, through a black-and-white maze of tile and mirrors, and into the central garden, where Queen Califia stands high atop an eagle throne, surrounded by eight large protective totems. Sit beneath the eagle by the giant egg, and look up at the starry dome of heaven.
