P.B.: Party Capital or Family Community?

— The Beach Area Community Court held its Volunteer Training on January 27, 2009, inside the Discover Pacific Beach headquarters located at 1503 Garnet Avenue. The court is a voluntary prosecutorial diversion program for adult offenders who commit certain crimes (largely alcohol related) that impact the quality of life for beach area residents. Eligible offenders are given the opportunity to participate in community services in lieu of paying a fine. An added bonus is that the citation is obliterated from the offender’s record.

Volunteers are an integral part of the success of this program and once trained and certified, will be voices for the community, establish rapport with the offenders (in the hope of motivating them to make better choices in the future), and enhance the overall image of life in Pacific Beach and its neighboring beach communities. One participant commented, "One of the main goals of this program is to let the world know that Pacific Beach is not the party capitol of the world but rather a safe and beautiful family community."
