Truck Wins Again

At 1:31 p.m. on Sunday, February 22, at the intersection of National Avenue and 31st Street in Logan Heights, a motorcyclist became trapped underneath a truck after the two vehicles collided.

The motorcyclist had been traveling eastbound on National Avenue when a pickup truck pulled into the intersection to continue southbound on 31st Street. After colliding, the motorcyclist slid underneath the rear wheel of the pickup truck and his helmet flew off. The front wheel of the motorcycle became detached from the forks upon impact.

San Diego Police responded almost immediately, with the first police car at the site of the crash at 1:33 p.m. The San Diego Fire Department arrived with the first fire engine at 1:35 p.m. By 1:40 p.m. there were four fire engines and at least six police cars at the intersection. Eventually, the San Diego Fire Department’s heavy rescue team arrived to lift the truck off the motorcyclist.

At 1:50 p.m., after the truck had been lifted, the motorcyclist was placed on a stretcher and taken to the hospital. The driver of the pickup truck did not sustain any serious injuries.
