Lorna And Three Teen-Age Friends, 1965

Photo Credit: San Diego Historical Society

In June of 1965, the Evening Tribune sent a photographer to 3535 Tomahawk Lane in Clairemont. The angle of the story isn't clear today, but the assignment sheet reads: "Take photo of Lorna [Montgomery, standing, with record held to chest] and three teen-age friends as they sit at her home listening to stereo. If you can think of any gimmick to liven it up, go ahead." The article may have had to do with the stereo console; technology had advanced to such a degree that the term "hi-fi" became passé and "stereo" -- this one with knobs to turn up the bass and/or treble -- had become the thing.
