"I Think Jeff and Jer Plan on Leaving."

One insider said that the biggest news may still be forthcoming from the station formerly known as Star 100.7 and now known as Jack 100.7. This insider believes that the top-rated morning duo of Jeff and Jer is planning to leave 100.7 and jump to the Planet (KPLN-FM, 103.7), the classic rock station. Should Jeff and Jer make the switch, 103.7 would also drop its Planet name and its classic rock format for an adult contemporary format formerly used by Star 100.7.

If they switch, it would be the fifth local station for Jeff Elliott and Jerry St. James, a former Detroit morning show duo who came to San Diego in 1988. They are consistently among the top three morning shows in the desired 25--54 age range.

"I think 100.7 decided to get rid of all its live DJs and switch to Jack [format] when they found out they were losing Jeff and Jer," said another insider. "Financially, Star and KYXY are the two most successful stations in San Diego. Why would they change unless they had to?"

Jeff and Jer are not mentioned in new TV commercials advertising Jack FM.

Calls to general managers Bob Bolinger (the Planet) and Tracy Johnson (Jack 100.7) were not returned. Jeff and Jer were on vacation last week.
