The crowd can get pretty thick at times (weekend afternoons any day when the weather's good). Regulars sort themselves into two rows within the flight zone to keep the tangles and collisions to a minimum, but neophytes can be slow to catch on to the unwritten rules of etiquette. And the breeze at Mariner's Point (another top local kite-flying spot) tends to be smoother. Still, the popularity of this site adds to its natural charm. San Diego Kite Club members hold their meetings here around 10 a.m. the second Saturday of each month. Even when the club's not in session, kindred spirits abound. Some are true experts; most are willing to share their knowledge.
