Disco dancers, rockabilly greasers, zoots, sportys, indie geeks, and skate punks -- they all died and went to "Jivewire," the Casbah's intermittent dance night. Once in a while, San Diego's popular live-rock spot spins a dance party, where DJs keep it real by mixing genres and generations, while maintaining the Casbah's casual edge -- there's no pretense here, unlike most downtown dance clubs. Jivewire DJs exhume the discotheques of the '70s, the punk backlash, '80s new wave pop and mope, timeless rock and roll, and some underground beats that defy description and defy you to sit still. Jivewire is always a popular night (it's free) and the bar stays packed till closing time with dancers and wallflowers alike.
